A planting guide, guidelines for record keeping, and information about herbal insect deterrents is included. PC-Peren 1.3 (PCPEREN) Taxonomic Computer Research $19 selects and describes herbaceous, sun-loving perennials based on their names, flower color, months of bloom, and height at bloom peak. A simple menu system displays a list of plants on screen or outputs it to a text file. You can search for plants by genus, variety/cultivar name, or any part of the plant's name. Perpetual Garden Journal (PGARDEN) Truett, Lawrence $30 is a note-keeping and reminder system for gardeners. Personal Gardener (PG) Rick Healy $0 lets you plan a garden with up to 999 different plants. Perennial plants do not have to be re-entered each season and you can harvest some crop areas without disrupting others. You can add your own data. Requires a database program that imports DIF, ASCII, mail merge, or delimited format. Flowers 2.1 is a database program with the data from Computer Gardening Data Disk incorporated into it. Gardener's Assistant Shannon Software, Ltd. $25 #20035/3654 will help in planning your garden. It allows you to choose which vegetables you want to plant and provides a suggested number of rowfeet to plant for each person. It will display a layout of your garden and generate a planting date. ------------- #2249 Hobbies Small Programs Disk ------------- Backyard Birds 1.1 (BYBIRDS) Boger, Allen D. $8 is a tutorial on how to attract and care for wild birds. It provides detailed information on what species will be attracted to different types of food and feeders, feeder selection, placement and maintenance, predator control, plant types, and nesting box dimensions and arrangement. Darkroom Assistant (DRKROOM) Deady, Craig $20 is basically a programmable timer for use in the darkroom for film and paper developing. All of the program steps are displayed continuously as are the remaining times, agitate times, pause times, and the current status of the running program. All steps are easily modified or copied to suit different needs and many programs can be created and saved on disk for immediate recall. With a voice synthesizer, the DA will even call out the steps to you. Exterior Rifle Ballistics (BULLET) Melten, Richard D. $5 is a program for reloaders. It will tell you the maximum height of a projectile between muzzle and zero point and the expected bullet drop at the target. Guitar.BAS Cummins, Ed helps tune a guitar. BASIC required. HOTrain Merker, Fred $0 is a text file that gives you information on how to hook up, run and have control over an HO model train with your computer. HOTRAIN.ARC also includes several programs, complete with A86 Assembler source code, for running the train. LogMaster RV1.0 (LOGMSTR) Fundamental Services $10-$20 contains three standard marine logging functions: the Ship's Log, the Maintenance Log, and the Guest Register. The program is designed to let you quickly and easily organize, store, recall, update and print all pertinent shipboard data. MarNave 1.0 C & E Associates ASP $35 converts latitude and longitude coordinates to to LORAN C delays and vice versa. It also calculates head and distance from point "A" to point "B" with the location of the points specified either as Lat/Lon or LORAN delays. It also calculates required depths and times. Calculations are based on U. S. Navy tables. Elite Car Database III 3.3 (ELITECA) Laurence Hatch $39 is a database of names, price, 0-60 speed, and engine size for over 300 high-performance and prestige cars. It includes models that normally cost more than $20k or have a 0-60 time of better than 8 seconds. Quite a few cars - particularly those in the $500k to $2meg range - we never heard of before. Interesting reading. GenKit 1.6 Pence, Richard A. $0 is a complete, menu-operated toolkit for genealogists. It describes calendar changes from `Old Style' to `New Style' and the Henry numbering system and variations. It returns date of birth from age on a given date; relationship of descendant to ancestor and cousins of ancestors/descendants; relationship of any two descendants of common ancestor; and soundex code for surname. This program also includes a sample ancestor chart; a chart showing relationships of you to other relatives; tables showing conversions for linear and area measurements; section measurements and land descriptions; typical township layout, showing section numbering; Tiny Tafel samples; and more. It covers topics such as kicks, punches, strategy, weapons, fists, chokes, throws, and more. It also includes summaries of all the major martial arts. This is interesting reading for the beginner or the black belt. The conversion data is stored in a straight text file so that you can view and edit it. A pop-up version (44k) is included. Convprog 1.09 (CNVPROG) Applied Environmetrics $0 converts between the three common systems of units: US system, metric system, and SI. The program recognizes units in any of the above three systems, and in many cases will recognize mixtures of the three. Conversions supported include temperature, pressure, length, area, volume, speed, flow, mass, density, and more. Formulas McClendon, Judson D. $0 is a collection of useful formulas. MAG 1.6 (MAG-NN) Newman, Norman $20 maintains a database for articles which appear in magazines. The program was designed for computer magazines, but can easily be modified for articles on any subject. Tables Robertson-Mudie, Fred $? is a handy resource when you need to convert between different types of weights and measures. This is a very complete set of tables and conversion routines covering everything from how many inches in a meter to how many gallons in a hogshead. TimeCalc performs conversions of units of measure of time. The program creates educational reports about prenatal development and the progress of your pregnancy on the current date. BabyName (BABYNAM) Illumind $0 is a text file containing 12,438 names as an aid for parents-to-be. The names are listed once in alphabetical order and again in order by length. Hints & Tips (HINTS) Joy's Software $13-$18 contains hints and tips on various subjects such as for automobiles, cleaning, food, fishing, gardening, parenting, pets, and more. Several charts and tables are provided for cooking measurements, weight, temperatures and state abbreviations. NameMe 1.1 PS Software $5 will help you choose a name for your new baby (or an alias for yourself, we suppose). Cub's reports are based on age to ease advancement planning. Decide helps you arrive at decisions. BASIC required. FishTime 1.2 (FISHTIM) C & E Associates $15 calculates the best time to hunt and fish based on phase and position of the moon and the day and month for any location in the continental U.S. A graphic display of fishing conditions is generated for the selected dates, or a list of prime hunting and fishing times for selected dates. Infer Newman, Norman $0 solves hypothetical syllogisms. For example, you tell it "Socrates is a man." and "Man is mortal." Then you can ask it "Is Socrates mortal?" and it will reply correctly. If you ask it "Is Plato mortal?" it will respond that it has no data on Plato, and you can then proceed to enter data for Plato if you wish. This is a very simple example. The data entered can become quite complex. Pascal source code is included. RunRite 1.0 Bartlett, D.G. $0 provides statistics on running. You key in your total miles and minutes, and the program calculates Average MPH, Average Minutes per Mile, Total Yards and Feet travelled, and more. Satellite Utilities 1.0 (SATUTIL) Tinsley, Carl $0-$30 provides frequency/transponder information and positioning calculations for popular Ku and C band satellites. SoundEff plays sound effects, such as bat screeches, bird calls, a clock ticking or crickets chirping. BASICA required. Creative Parties For Kids (CPK) Wilkens, Lauri $15 is an electronic book on how to keep children entertained at birthday parties. It covers invitations, games, decorations, food and other party ideas. Giftwrap (GIFTWRA) Asha Associates $? lets you create personalized giftwrap paper from your printer. The program is menu-driven and easy to use. The basic concept is that you put in a short phrase, such as "Happy Birthday, Charlie!" and the phrase is repeated to create various patterns on the paper. Output can be directed to a text file so that you can add additional flourishes before printing if you wish. Hack-Sim.Bas is an entertaining program with which to impress others of your "hacking" skills. It simulates a communications hook-up into a NORAD computer, prompting you for security access codes and displaying authentic looking warning messages. Party Welton, Douglas $? will help you in planning your next party. It contains recipes for wine punches and instructions for party games. It also has wedding anniversaries and their symbols, birthstones and their months, birthdays with zodiac signs to help in selecting the perfect gift, and a list of special dates of the year for 1989. Texas.BAS Sometimes we will really stretch our standards in adding a program to the Additions Disks if it only takes 1-2k of disk space like this one. This program draws the Texas flag and plays the Eyes of Texas (BASICA required). It is intended primarily for presentation to people on their birthdays. Categories of information include Events of the Month, Sports, Cost of Living, Shared Birthdays, Popular Songs, Movies, Your Birthstone, and Your Birthsign. You can edit and add to the databases with a text editor. Requires 640K memory and a hard disk is recommended. Your Birthday Almanac 2.06s & Kenneth G. Kirkpatrick, ASP $50 each #12536 creates a commercial quality printout of what happened the day/year you were born. Your Anniversary Almanac 2.06s is a companion program that produces a printout of what happened the day//year you were married. (READFST) O'Rear, Larry $12-$25 is a computer aided reading and speed-improvement program. In this course you will find some of the causes of slow reading, and find out how to overcome those obstacles. You will be paced as you read to force you to increase your speed. Your reading speed will be measured in order to show you the progress that you are making. Resume Reid, Bill $5 will assist you in the preparation of resume to submit to potential employers. Assemble all the files using WordStar in a non-document mode, install it on a floppy and mail it to the personnel director. This approach is innovative enough to give your resume a higher probability of being read. Resume Professional 1.6 (RES-PRO) Leinecker, Richard C. $22 helps you put together a professional looking resume. It prompts you for the various elements of a good resume, including the cover letter. You can save, recall and edit your work. The program is fast and easy to use. SR is a speed-reading teaching program. Sublim Yee, George $? flashes what are supposed to be subliminal messages on the screen. The problem is that your conscious mind, which is not supposed to be wise to what your subconscious mind is seeing, will be very aware of the messages flashing on the screen. We have very strong doubts that this thing will work (but for some reason, I suddenly have an urge for popcorn...). Willkit "Old Lawyers Tricks" $? It is with some trepidation that we distribute a file that purports to give legal advice, particularly for something as important as a will and even more particularly when the copyright is registered to something called "Old Lawyers Tricks". Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MYERS) $0 is a personality test based on Myers Briggs. Your answers will show how you like to look at things and how you like to go about making decisions. Keirsey Temperament Sorter 2.0 (KEIRSEY) Johnson, Phil $0 is an enhanced version of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Your answers to the 70 questions will help show how you like to look at things and how you like to go about deciding things. Omni is a self-test program to show if you are more right-brained or left-brained. My left brain says to drop this program, but my right brain says `Oh, what the heck.' Shrink-U asks you about in about 500 different ways if you are introverted or extroverted and whether or not you are organized and then tells you if you are introverted or extroverted, organized or not. Slick, huh? (This program got through the librarians meeting on a split decision. The author has tested the formulas in actual flight conditions, compared it to a Smith Industries B737 Flight Computer and found it to be accurate. FlitePln (FLITEPL) is to be used with the program PC-FLY. It requires only that essential information which all pilots use when planning a flight. Data which can be readily obtained from a chart is not included in the program. Shuttle Tracker (STS) Lloyd, Robert ASP $10 lets you enter flight data for the Space Shuttle from the newspaper which the program will record and then use to display the orbital path over a map of the world. (Lloyd is also author of the popular WORLD program.) STS can also be used to predict when the Shuttle will be overhead for possible night time viewing. #0520 Sports ------------ BassTips 1.5 (BTIPS) (11-93 CD) Olsen, Richard A. ASP $10 pops a valuable fishing or boating tip onto your screen each time it is run. Over 100 tips are provided and you can add more. Handicap (HANDICA) Montoya, Ernest $? is a horse race handicapping program. BASIC is required. Harness is a program that helps you get rich by betting on harness races. Even if you are not interested in placing bets, you may find the extensive documentation to be interesting. Sportfishing 2.1 (SPRTFSH) Virginia Marine Science Museum $15 allows you to select a sportfish and provides information on spawning, fishing areas, baits and lures and Virginia record catches. This program focuses on the Chesapeake Bay and nearby coastal waters. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #0520 -------------------------------- Animals Campana, D. & Crabtree, P. $50 #1697 is a specialized file management program designed to assist the archaeozoologist in the essential tasks of recording, sorting, totalling, and otherwise analyzing fairly large collections of animal bone remains. A hard disk or 720k+ floppy is required. Birds Greene, T. R. $15 #2018 is a guide to the identification of land birds of the Chesapeake and Delaware Bay Area. It works in two ways: you can enter the name of a bird and get a description of it, or it will prompt you for a detailed description and tell you what kind of bird you have spotted. Babble! Korenthal Associates, Inc. ASP $25 #3104 generates random, but often interesting, prose in a user-specified style that can range from Mother Goose to Shakespeare. You can mix styles and create your own. Lots of fun for word lovers. Several separate Babble files created by the program are provided on this disk. BabySitter Brandyware $20 #3930 is a program to leave running on your computer for the babysitter. It provides access to all the information that a babysitter could possibly need: your schedule while out (including addresses, phone numbers and times), emergency numbers, things to do (complete with alarms), special instructions and a lot more. Other features include phone dialing through a modem, mouse support, custom screens, calendar, and more. Bald Groff Software $15 #4096 provides information on the causes of baldness and a list of possible cures. There are also sections describing a number of ways to hide baldness, a glossary of terms, a quiz on baldness, and famous quotes on the subject of baldness. Ballistic Frenchu, William R. $10 #1083 generates ballistic tables for handloaders. It also calculates ballistic coefficient, remaining velocity, energy, momentum, drop, wind deflection, maximum height, and time of flight at a given range. In addition, it can be used to determine the amount of recoil generated by a cartridge and gun and produce trajectory tables for estimating "holdover". Features include a graphic representation of trajectory, calculation of IPSC power factor, faster program operation, calculation of point-blank range and minimum twist, and more. Colorado Vacations On Diskette 1.0 Kott, Andrea $25 #4627 is a database of over 200 interesting places and things to do in Colorado. Topics include a variety of outdoors activities, attractions, lodging and more. Names, addresses, phone numbers, and contact names are included. It features popular attractions such as Aspen, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone Resort, Steamboat Springs, Gaming in Teller and many year-round activities associated with these resorts. Requires DOS 3.1+, 640K RAM, and a hard disk or high density floppy. Cat-Med Jim Lynch $15 #4097 contains a menu-driven database of common feline symptoms and ailments. It allows you quickly and easily determine what a particular symptom might mean and to see what symptoms may be associated with a given ailment. This program is a must for all cat owners. Requires 400+k disk space. Data-Plane Aviation Software [DATAPLN1, DATAPLN2, DATAPLN3, DATAPLN4] Data-Plane, Inc. $63-$228 #20113 [4 disks] is a comprehensive flight planning package. This 4-disk set contains programs which provide heading, ground speed, distances, en-route minimum altitudes, and other important information for pilots. Hard disk is required. Deer Expert 4.1 Strat-Tech, Inc. ASP $26 #12287 is a whitetail deer hunting program. It helps determine the best hunting method given conditions such as terrain, weather or day of season. Hunting logs are provided for equipment, safety, kill records, recipes and others. It also contains a library of information on hunting techniques, safety, ticks and more. This program contains data for doe, smaller bucks, and recovering wounded deer. Requires DOS 3.3, and 720K disk space. DynaMind Salahi, David L. $? #1857 assists you in identifying and ranking your goals and in understanding what is motivating you toward them. Once you have clearly defined your situation and your goals, it can help you to create strategies for achieving your goals and to evaluate alternatives. Frankly, some of the steps, such as Reversing Your Goals, seem at best to be a waste of time and at worst, more than a little silly. However, others, such as Change the Rules can get you to look at your options in a new light. If structured analysis of problems is not your strong point, this program could be of benefit to you. Boater's Helper Shelter Island Press, ASP $50 #27358/2535 is a complete system for managing every aspect of your boat or yacht from food and supplies to charts, projects and repairs. The program is easy to install and use. Requires 512K. FishBase ][ 3.0 [FISHBASE] (11-93 CD) Olsen, Richard A. ASP $17 #27358/2019 will help you keep a diary of things you want to know about your fishing activities. Fish-N-Log Plus Taylor, Robert E. $30 #27358/2720 is a fisherman's diary/log. It will recall the information for improving results on later trips; display the best spot during specific months; and remind you of the best methods, colors, and time of day. Other features include the ability to store data about your rod, reel and line-size combinations and to store information about hotels where you fish. You can also record descriptions of situations, combination of conditions, methods, tackle combinations, etc, which produced or didn't produce fish. Requires 300K and a hard disk drive. Loran Locator Fundamental Services $40 #27358/1978 is an electronic "numbers" book for boaters who collect Loran C fixes for diving or fishing. This program will quickly and easily organize, store, recall, update, and print your Loran waypoint numbers. Features include duplicate checking and purging, import/export to/from many data base manager programs, waypoint register, float plan, and multiple data file support. Fishbyte EJM Computer Consulting LTD ASP $30 #4263 is a fishing and Loran log program for salt water anglers. The Fishing Log lets you record and search on date, location and species, as well as noting tides, winds, bait type, size, number caught and more. In addition to the Loran log, the program lets you keep track of moon phases, personal best, and techniques. Freebies 4.0 Puccio, Louis $20 #4971 (10-93 CD) is a sample database of companies with toll free numbers where you can obtain free magazines, game demos, videos and more. As an example of the type of freebies offered, an EGA/VGA helicopter game is included on the disk. A computer tutorial and dictionary is also included. Gemologist Integrated Appraisal Williams, Robert $? #0806 is a price database for appraising gems. John Uharriet, California, says that he gets an "Illegal function call in 3930" when trying to run this program. The routine starting at line 3930 uses graphics to draw a U.S. map on the screen, which really has nothing to do with the program. If you have non-graphics video or if your BASIC does not support the DRAW command, you can bypass this code as follows: at the DOS prompt, load your BASIC. Once in BASIC, enter LOAD "GIA" and then type 3925 GOTO 90 and press Enter. To save this change, enter SAVE "GIA". G.I.F.T.S. Hulen & Associates $10 #1247 suggests gifts for you to give people given your specifications. For example, entering MAN as a criterion brings up 95 possible gifts. Specifying MIDDLE-AGED narrows it to 26 choices. FUN narrows it down to four. (Clearly, middle-aged men are not supposed to have fun.) So if my wife uses this program, on my next birthday, I should be expecting one of the following: (1) fitness weights, (2) a bridge-playing computer, (3) a chess-playing computer, or (4) a weekend trip to a romantic getaway. Handwriting Analyst Ciasa $50 #1538 analyzes your handwriting by asking you a series of questions about how your handwriting looks. A short or detailed analysis can be sent to the screen, file or printer. Origami Furiya, George $20 #0583 is a delightful set of BASIC programs that show you how to master the ancient art of paper folding. What makes the programs delightful is the use of graphics to demonstrate the folding. It's fun to watch even if you never try the folding yourself. BASIC and a graphics card are required.
